Zur Group in Action

Solutions in the Community

Zur Group’s Fair For Life Program is called the 7th Block Group – a multidisciplinary collaboration of professionals working to rebuild their country after the devastating earthquake that occurred on February 27th, 2010. From the beginning, the group has worked to preserve its history. “To remember, is to rebuild.” Here are some of their initiatives.

Manzana Project

The Manzana Project consists of reconstructing damaged adobe buildings that will not only provide a better quality of life for residents with access to full kitchens and living areas, but also provide construction jobs to community members who were impacted by the earthquake.

Project Schools

Project Schools is an initiative that will provide immediate classrooms to students from Manuel Montt D-612 School, whose buildings were damaged by the earthquake and now structurally unsafe for use. Project Schools will provide prefabricated buildings for over 500 6th, 7th and 8th graders in the urban radius of Retiro. Once the original buildings are fixed, these prefabricated units can be installed in other areas of the community also in need of reconstruction efforts. “School provides a child their first glimpse of society. Beyond the doors of one’s house, school becomes our model for relationships.”

Divine Word – Building a 2010 Mission

This project is a collaboration of the 7th Block Group, the Divine Word School and the Villa Maria Academy. They have joined forces to raise money for new houses to help families whose homes were destroyed in the earthquake.  The families to benefit will participate in the rebuilding effort while receiving support from student working groups that contribute in a variety of ways, such as preparing lunch each day for the volunteers.
